  • Watch the world’s top DotA 2 teams at the Manila Masters 2017
  • Legacies will be built, the local and international e-sports scene will be given a boost, and a champion will be crowned as eight of the world’s top Defense of the Ancients (DotA) 2  teams converge in Manila for the first-ever Manila Masters.

Cheer on your favorites as Evil Geniuses (EG), OG, Newbee, Team Secret, Team NP, Invictus Gaming, Team Faceless, and our country’s own Clutch Gamers battle it out for to be the champion of Manila Masters and get the biggest chunk out of the US$250,000 prize pool.

Make sure you cheer extra hard for Clutch Gamers, composed of Khim “Gabbi” Villafuerte, Armel Paul “Armel” Tabios, Rafael Sicat “Rappy” Palo, Marvin “Boombacs” Rushton, and Kenneth “flysolo” Coloma, who bested 3000 other teams (yes, there are that many DotA 2 teams in the country) to clinch the top spot at the National Qualifiers.

Bringing you all the action will be the Mineski Events Team with the help of ESL. As the biggest DotA 2 event in Southeast Asia, they’re bridging language gaps across the region by bringing in shoutcasters and analysts from Indonesia, Malaysia, and China, as well as having an English and Filipino shoutcasting team.

Recognizing the meteoric rise of e-sports as a spectator sport, TV5 has also joined the fray to provide free TV coverage via AksyonTV, while connectivity for the event will come from PLDT Home and Smart.

“E-sport is already as massive as traditional sports,” said TV5 President and CEO Chot Reyes. “With 32 million active gamers in the Philippines, the community is a passionate voice that cannot be ignored. We will send off our Philippine team to compete in the world stage with active support and a commitment to accompany them all the way through nationwide coverage.”

LEGACY IN THE MAKING. That’s also what Mineski’s Ronald Robins said during the press conference yesterday at the Solaire Resort and Casino./IMAGE Philippine Primer

Mineski Franchise Corporation CEO Ronald Robins added, “The Philippine scene already has a strong backbone, and Philippine teams and organizations are getting stronger by the day. This time, we want to strengthen Southeast Asia as a whole, despite the inevitable challenges ahead. Now, with the Masters, we are going to move forward again.”

    Tournament Format and Schedule

As the country’s first international premier DotA 2 tournament, the Manila Masters has conformed to standards seen in other major tournaments like The International and the recently-concluded Kiev Major.

The tournament will follow a double elimination bracket with all matches being played as best-of-threes (BO3), except for the grand final match which will be a best-of-five (BO5).

The tournament starts today, May 25 (available only via stream) with the first and second rounds of the Upper Bracket stage. Day 2 on May 6 will show the third round of the Upper Bracket (the winner of which will head straight to the grand finals) and the start of the Lower Bracket matches.

May 27 will be an all Lower Bracket affair as teams battle it out for a slot at the Lower Bracket finals on May 28. The winner of the Lower Bracket finals will face off against the team who won the final Upper Bracket match to determine the winner of this year’s Manila Masters.

Matches will start at 10:30 a.m. on May 25, 26, and 27, while the Lower Bracket finals will start at 11:30 a.m. on May 28.
