  • Societa’ Dante Alighieri Comitato di Manila (SDA Manila) and Lyric Opera Philippines (LyrOpera), under the auspices of the Italian Embassy, Manila are all on onboard for the first season of L’Opera on Wheels in the Philippines!

    L’Opera on Wheels officially starts rolling in November at the TIU Theater (formerly Louie THX Cinema) at the Mile Long Compound, Makati City. L’Opera on Wheels is a unique format of the opera to make the classic opera accessible to a broader audience.

    SDA Manila and LyrOpera highlights opera as the pinnacle of the arts by featuring opera from Italy, the country where the great art form was born. As homage to the Italian “Sommo Poeta”, Dante Alighieri, L’Opera on Wheels will be featuring Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, a one act comic opera inspired by Dante’s Inferno Canto XXX.

    THE CAST. After reading the late Buoso Donati’s will, his relatives learn that the wealthy man left everything to the monastery. The cast of Ginanni Schicchi is led by acclaimed opera singer Noel Azcona (far right).

    The Philippine production will be lead by internationally acclaimed opera singer, Noel Azcona who plays con man Gianni Schicchi. Schicchi pretends to be the dying Bouso Donati in order to reverse the wealthy man’s will in favor of his family. Gianni Schicchi premieres on November 13 at the TIU Theater and will run until November 26.

    L’Opera on Wheels continues its tour as it presents special Christmas concerts which will travel in malls and public spaces all throughout December. The Christmas concerts will feature classic Christmas music from Italy and other holiday favorites from all over the world.

    COSI’ FAN TUTTE CAST. Despina, pretending to be a doctor, tries to revive the Albanians who feign unconsciousness after drinking poison.

    Come February 2017, L’Opera on Wheels will take you on a romantic ride as it showcases Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Cosi’ fan Tutte,  which casts the world class ensemble of Naomi Sison, Mary Patrice Pacis, Vidagrace Mirang, Renz Nathaniel Cruz and Nomher Nival.

    Cosi’ fan Tutte, an opera of two acts, is a romance-comedy about two sisters whose love is tested by their respective lovers and their struggle to fight the temptations of new love. It debuts on February 12 and will run until February 26, 2017.

    SDA Manila promotes the Italian language and culture in the Philippines, and creates opportunities for cultural partnerships and linkages between the Filipino and Italian communities, providing windows for cultural growth for both countries.

    LyrOpera is an opera company known for presenting opera productions and operathemed shows of outstanding quality with its string of successful productions utilizing both local and international talents.
