  • We are a bit past the halfway point of 2019 and this month, Netflix has a lot of thrilling titles in store for us. If you haven’t seen them yet, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! 

    Check out some of the new films and series on Netflix this July:

    The Last Czars: Season 1

    The Last Czars is a part-drama, part-documentary that features the lives of Russia’s last imperial dynasty, the House of Romanov. The series follows the rise and the fall of the Romanovs from the beginning of their reign in 1613 to their execution in 1918, following the February Revolution.

    Promising to be a drama and a reconstruction, The Last Czars will also include commentaries from world-class historians to explain the context behind the scenes.

    Stranger Things: Season 3

    Set in the summer of 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, a brand new mall just opened up in town and the Hawkins Crew are on the apex of adulthood. With romance a foot, the group’s dynamic becomes complicated and they have to figure out how they’ll grow without growing apart.

    Meanwhile, the town is threatened by old and new enemies. Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends, it just evolves. The group must now band together to survive and remember that friendship always prevails over fear.

    Kakegurui: Season 2

    Based on the manga series of the same name, the second season of Kakegurui centers on Hyakkaou Private Academy, an institute for the privileged with a rather particular curriculum. In the academy, students are not evaluated by their academic or athletic prowess, but rather, the social status they possess. 

    Hyakkaou Private Academy uses a curriculum that’s focused on gambling. The winners live like royalty while the losers are put through the wringer.

    The Legend of the White Snake: Season 1

    The Legend of the White Snake follows Bai Suzhen, the white snake spirit who activates her vital energy by taking the sweet dew of goodness and purity from Guanyin’s Jade bottle. She becomes immortal as she practices magical arts on Mt. Emei.

    After transforming into a human, she receives instructions from Guanyin as she enters the mortal world to immerse in human society. There, she meets and falls in love with Xu Xian, which sparks a compelling love story.

    Aziz Ansari: RIGHT NOW

    Directed by Spike Jonze, Aziz Ansari returns to the screen with Aziz Ansari: RIGHT NOW, sharing personal insights and hilarious takes on social climate and family.

    The Shallows

    Originally released in 2016, the film follows the harrowing tale of Nancy, a surfer who finds herself in the feeding ground of a Great White Shark. While she is only stranded 200 yards from shore, she must learn to survive in this test of wills, requiring all of her resourcefulness, ingenuity, and fortitude.

    Cities of Last Things

    Cities of Last Things follows the life of a common man, who has experienced extraordinary events in his otherwise mundane life. The film presents a turn of events in the life of the protagonist in three eras, three seasons, three nights—all in the same city and told in reverse chronology.

    Point Blank

    In order to save his pregnant wife, an emergency room nurse must team up with an injured murder suspect in a race against cops, criminals, and time.

    Kidnapping Stella

    Kidnapped and held for ransom, a woman uses her limited powers and resources in order to derail the plans of her two masked abductors.

    Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac: Season 1 

    Based on the manga series of the same name, Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac is one of the most popular anime and manga franchises in Japan with a very strong following for the past three decades.

    Knights of the Zodiac follows Seiya, an orphan who is forced to obtain the Bronze Cloth of the Pegasus constellation in Greece. The said cloth is the protective armor of the Greek goddess Athena and her 88 warriors known as Saints. Seiya becomes the Pegasus Saint and embarks on a quest to search for his missing sister.
