  • Being a part of the “Coral Triangle”—a marine ecosystem that houses different species of coral and fishes, the Philippines is known to have the best freediving spots in the world because of its outstanding marine biodiversity.

With this, a lot of tourists frequently visit freediving hot spots in the country including Palawan, Cebu, and Bohol. And if you are curious about how this water sport works, the world’s largest academy for freediving has recently opened its doors in Panglao, Bohol last March.

FREEDIVE+ Freedive Academy Panglao is a professional freediving development center situated in Panglao, Bohol, the freediving capital of Asia. It is founded by professional freedivers Sura Dai, Cao Yu, and Vincent Sparreboom.

This center offers freediving courses from two leading and renowned freediving certification agencies namely the Scuba Schools International (SSI) and Association Internationale pour le Développement de l’Apnée (AIDA). It includes basic training for beginners, different levels of SSI courses, and a complete set of Master courses too.

The whole facility is designed for freediving enthusiasts with 5 fully-equipped classrooms, a freediving instructor trainer classroom, Apnea gym, four-lane 25 meter-pool, and a yoga and stretching area. They also have 50-meter walk access to the ocean where clients can freedive and see the spectacular coral walls underneath the crystal waters of Panglao beach.

However, this is just the first phase of Freedive+’s development. They are aiming to add more facilities like the restaurant and a total of 30 luxury apartments to be finished by mid-2020.

For those who want to enroll in freediving training, it costs a starting rate of $350 or more than Php 18,000 per month.
