  • Easy Ways to Set up a Garden in Your Condo
  • Having a garden at home literally breathes life into your space. Whether you live alone or with family, having living things like plants can make your dwelling place more vibrant, calming, and healthy. It’s just like having pets at home—it makes your house more alive and worth going home to.

Now, if you live in a condo, you might be asking “how’s that possible?” Well, who says that you can’t have plants in your condo or that you need a yard to have a garden? Allow us to prove that notion wrong and guide you through the easiest ways you can have your own garden in your condo.

    Choose the right plants

Given that your space is limited, you don’t want plants to overcrowd or take up too much space. Size-wise, choose plants that are small or narrow so that you can instead utilize the vertical space in your condo. If you’re setting up solely indoors (for those without a balcony), go for plants that are low-maintenance and require little sunlight like rubber trees, snake plants, spider plants, and cacti.

    Use recyclable containers

You don’t need to spend a lot to pot your small plants. Refrain from throwing away your soda cans, coffee cups or shoe boxes and use them creatively to set up a mini garden. It’s not only practical but also ecologically friendly.

You can use them as they are or paint them according to your style. And then, arrange them neatly in empty spaces on your bookshelves, drawers, and coffee tables.

Utilize your walls through vertical gardening

When it comes to designing small spaces, playing up with vertical features rather than using up more floor space always does the trick. The same should be followed when arranging plants in your condo. Setting up a vertical garden not only lets you have more plants but also helps make your room look taller.

You can mount wire or wooden frames directly on the wall or reuse old shoe racks or shelves. Choose plants according to the location (e.g. choose plants that don’t need much sun for a closed room) and don’t arrange them too closely together.

    Utilize the ceiling, too!

Hanging planters are also an interesting element in your condo. They make your otherwise plain ceiling to a pleasing eye-catcher. You may opt for some flowering plants like Fuchsia or Lobelia, and arrange them creatively in hanging baskets.

Avoid filling a basket with too much soil or too many plant material, so you can be sure that your ceiling or the hook can hold the weight. Some of the best spots you can install your hanging planters are near windows or around your living room.

Set up a mini garden on your balcony

If you look at the balconies of some condos in the city, they are usually only “adorned” with a small table and chair or hanging laundry. If you’re blessed with a balcony in your condo, make yours stand out by placing plants on a vertical shelf beside your table and chair so that you (and your visitors!) will feel inspired to spend more time on your balcony while you sip on your coffee or watch the city below.

If your balcony has a roof, you can hang some plants along the edges. Otherwise, you can mount hanging planters next to the door or window on your balcony.

    Keep learning and experimenting!

See? Regardless of how much space you have for your home, it’s definitely not impossible to still have your own little Eden garden where you can relax and achieve peace of mind without having to seek the outdoor park. Keep seeking more ways and find your own style in beautifying your home with indoor plants.

Of course, it’s not all convenient and easy. Don’t forget to study about and care for your plants—water them when needed and let them have a taste of sunlight from time to time. It’s just a game of give-and-take. Love your plants as much as they give you a more vibrant and lively home.
