Tips When Going on an Island Hopping Tour in the Philippines
Are you planning to hit the beach this long weekend? Here are some tips to guide you when sailing on an island adventure in the Philippines.
ISLAND HOPPING. At Malapascua Island, Cebu.
- Check the weather.
Prior to booking an island hopping activity, make sure you’ve checked the weather at the place you’re going to. It’s best to go island hopping during the dry season (November to April). If a storm signal is up, better cancel your plans for your own safety.
- Bring only the important things during the tour.
Since you are on an island hopping tour, it’s best to bring only the necessary things you need and leave bulky items at your place. Important things include: sunscreen, towel, action camera (optional), money, and sunglasses.
- Know what you’re into.
It is your responsibility to research about the places where you will go during the tour. Some island tours such as in Coron, Palawan have different stops, so choose where you can maximize your time the most. Make sure that the tour agency you booked your island hopping tour with is licensed.
- Protect your gears.
Getting in on an island hopping tour means there is a 90% chance you’re getting wet. Better bring a dry bag to keep your valuables safe.
- Tipping policies for boatmen
Although you are not obliged to do so, some island hoppers give extra tip to their boatman/tour guide. The ideal tip would be around P100 to P200, but you can go beyond if you want to.
- Wear appropriate clothes.
There’s nothing wrong with wearing a bikini but if you wish to play waters ports then it’s best to wear rash guards. Wear clothes with swimwear-material for a less hassle and more comfortable attire.
- Take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprints
Enjoy all you want in your island hopping activity, but never destroy anything in the place. Let others admire its beauty the way you appreciated it, so don’t ruin the place, throw your garbage properly, and keep it clean.
