  • UNSEEN: Art with a purpose
  • Art has always been seen as a form of expression; however, in recent years it has also taken on another purpose: that of advocacy. Art exhibitions have always been done to promote local artists. Abstract Expression Manila’s (AEM) Unseen: A Mental Health Benefit Exhibit, which runs from August 26 – 29, is doing more than just promoting artists.

Unseen is an event that promotes this new way of looking at art. It’s a fundraising activity for those suffering mental illnesses. They’re looking to not only get people to see and appreciate some of the country’s best works of art; they’re also looking to raise awareness about mental illnesses with the help of the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH).

Apart from showcasing works of art, they are also inviting spoken word poets and live acoustic bands to perform alongside all paintings and photographs that are available for auction.

Mental health issues have long existed in the Philippines. Advocates have long been saying it’s an issue that needs to be addressed, yet it seems that it is only now that it has become a priority. With Unseen, AEM seeks to raise that awareness to the next level while giving help to the NCMH.

You can catch Unseen: A mental Health Benefit Exhibit from August 26 – 29 at The Office Coworking Studio, located at Unit 1C, Alpha Salcedo Condominium, Bautista St., Salcedo Vill., Makati City.

No ticket prices or artist line-up has been released as of this writing, so stay glued to this page for updates. You can also follow @AEManila on Twitter and Abstract Expression Manila on Facebook to get updates straight from AEM.
