Thirty high-achieving Filipinos are the first batch of graduates of the joint program on industrial relations and human resource management offered by the De La Salle University (DLSU) and the University of Newcastle (UoN) in Australia.
The graduates undertook a Diploma component at DLSU, followed by a Master’s component in Australia. They are also recipients of the prestigious Australia Awards. The Australia Awards provide opportunities for the best and brightest Filipinos to pursue a world class education in Australia.

The collaboration between the two universities was made possible through the Australian Embassy’s Institutional Partnership Program. “Less than two years into the partnership between DLSU and UoN, I am pleased to note that we have achieved more than expected with both universities enjoying strong ties that go beyond the initial course offering. We have delivered a program that is grounded in the realities of working in the Philippines while providing the global perspective needed to drive development in the field of human resource management,” said Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, Amanda Gorely.

Australia’s support to the joint program is part of a larger aid investment to develop human capital resource in the Philippines as a pathway to development.

The Institutional Partnership Program brokers academic collaborations between Australian and Philippine universities to design tailor-made and contextually-relevant educational experiences for Filipino professionals. These partnerships enhance the links between the two countries, promote knowledge and technology transfer among universities, and find new ways to respond to learning needs of Filipinos. The first graduates of this program are now equipped with world-class knowledge and skills to advance human resource management and development in the Philippines.

The Australian Embassy, DLSU and UoN honoured the graduates in a recognition ceremony held on 24 October 2016 at DLSU Main Campus. The ceremony coincides with the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Australia diplomatic relations.
Applications for Australia Awards Scholarships June 2017 intake are accepted until 30 November 2016. Visit www.australiaawardsphilippines.org for more details.
