Malacanang Palace has announced that September 12, is officially a regular holiday throughout the Philippines in observance of Eid’l Adha (Feast of Sacrifice). The announcement was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on Sept. 5, Monday under Republic Act No. 9849.

Eid alAdha is Islam’s holiest festival celebrated to commemorate the willingness of prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael to follow Allah’s (God’s) command but was instructed by God to offer a ram instead.

The holiday announcement creates a long weekend from Saturday, September 10 to Monday, September 12.
