  • Founded in 2011, the social enterprise BANAGO has produced a collection of hand-woven bags and home accessories intricately crafted by artisans in the rural regions of the Philippines. The designs of BANAGO are characterized by vibrant colors and exotic patterns. They are also inspired by the historic and ancient tattooed Pintados warriors in the Philippines islands.

Besides the exquisite design of each product, the process of crafting it gives each piece a timeless kind of beauty and value. BANAGO as a social enterprise provides training and employment to local artisans in countryside communities. It promotes sustainable livelihood sources for them while showcasing their artistry to various markets.

Each product is proudly handcrafted by the local artisans from harvesting of the wild grass to weaving the mats, and the embroidering with palm leaves together with the dye-making and finishing touches. This intricate and ingenious industry gives over 400 local women opportunities to earn and help their families live sustainable lives, and eventually becomes a collective effort affecting communities.

Every BANAGO purchase goes a long a way for the rural communities—and is also a way for the rural weaving artists to express and bring their creative style to the large urban market.
