According to a report from CNN, music icon Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, was found unresponsive inside an elevator at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful; he was pronounced dead at 10:07 a.m. He was 57.

Prince was known as a solo act. Most of his albums were credited as being “produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Prince.” Some of his biggest albums were 1999 (1982), Sign o’ the Times (1987), and Purple Rain (1984).

An inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, Prince was known for his musical genius that cannot be categorized under any music genre. He won seven Grammy awards, had five chart-topping singles, and bagged an Oscar for best original score for the movie Purple Rain (1984).

Prince adds to the list of celebrities who passed away in 2016, a list which includes the likes of David Bowie, Glenn Frey, and Alan Rickman.
