AND SO IT BEGINS. Construction has finally begun for the MRT-7.

“The long-awaited MRT-7 will serve commuters who ply the heavily congested Commonwealth Avenue area for work and school on a daily basis. The new railway system will not only significantly lessen travel time along this corridor, but also help decongest traffic in Caloocan and NLEX,” said DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

MRT-7, a joint project of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) and Universal LRT Corporation (ULC), will have 14 stations between North Avenue, Quezon City and San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan. Once completed in April 2020, it is expected to cut down travel times by 2.5 hours while shuttling 350,000 passengers daily. Futher upgrades will allow it to handle up to 800,000 a day.

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MRT-7.

President Benigno Aquino III was on hand for the groundbreaking ceremonies earlier at the Quezon Memorial Circle. He was accompanied by DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya and Ramon Ang, president of San Miguel Corporation (SMC), the parent company of ULC.

Apart from the monorail, the project also covers the construction of a 22-km, 6-lane highway between the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and an intermodal transportation terminal (ITT) adjacent to the San Jose Del Monte station. Public utility vehicles and private cars can use this highway to get to and from the ITT.
