  • To keep you in the loop on the recent COVID-19 situation in the Philippines, Philippine Primer rounded up the latest updates you need to know:

    Number of cases

    The Department of Health (DOH) has reported 206 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, raising the total number to 4,076.

    28 new recoveries and 21 additional mortalities were also recorded resulting in a total of 124 recoveries and 203 mortalities.

    Duterte addresses the nation

    For the second time this week, President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the nation together with some members of the Inter-Agency Task Force of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

    Duterte tackled some pressing concerns about the government’s efforts to address the coronavirus pandemic focusing on the generation of additional funds and the pandemic’s impact on the Philippine economy.

    Quezon Province now under extreme enhanced community quarantine

    Governor Danilo Suarez has signed Executive Order No. 21 yesterday which places the entire province of Quezon under extreme enhanced community quarantine starting from 12:01 a.m. today (April 9) to 11:59 p.m. of April 30, 2020.

    Precautionary measures and guidelines such as strict home quarantine in all households, mandatory wearing of facemasks, and heightened travel restrictions will be implemented in the province. Liquor ban is also implemented and curfew hours start from 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. Moreover, preexisting policies such as the “One Person per Household” policy will continue to take effect.

    On the other hand, Gov. Suarez assured the unrestricted movement of frontliners in the province.

    Lipa City passes anti-discrimination ordinance for COVID-19 patients, frontliners

    The city of Lipa in Batangas has passed the “Covid-19 Discrimination Ordinance.” Signed by Mayor Eric Africa, the ordinance penalizes discrimination against COVID-19 patients and frontliners.

    Offenders shall face a fine of Php 5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding six months or both at the discretion of the court. Maximum penalty shall be imposed, on the other hand, to public officers who violate the ordinance.

    ADMU shortens second semester, students to get refund

    Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) will be shortening its second semester for S.Y. 2019-2020 due to the coronavirus crisis at hands.

    “In the interest of everyone’s well-being in our community, the Loyola Schools has thought it best to end the semester earlier than scheduled. For both graduating and non-graduating undergraduate students, this Second Semester SY 2019-2020 will end on 8 May 2020,” ADMU stated in a memo released by ADMU Office of the Vice President.

    Students will also be receiving a refund of Php 20,000 from tuition and other fees and a 60% refund from lab fees.
