President Duterte Approves ECQ Extension Until April 30
In an effort to further prevent the spread of COVID-19 infections and strengthen the country’s health facilities, President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the extension of the Luzon-wide Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) as per Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) spokesman and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles.
The extension will last until 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2020.

In an address to the nation on the night of April 6, President Duterte mentioned that he was “inclined” to extend the lockdown. On the morning of the following day, April 7, Cabinet Secretary Karlos Nograles announced the extension of the ECQ in his IATF briefing.
Nograles further mentions that all exemptions set by the Office of the President and the IATF will be honored in the duration of the extended ECQ.
Further, Duterte urges the public to cooperate and to stay at home during these trying times. He also assures that his administration is committed to ensuring the safety and welfare of every Filipino.

It was on March 17, 2020 that President Duterte first declared the ECQ in Luzon, which was supposed to end on April 12.
As of April 6, the Department of Health recorded a total of 3,660 COVID-19 cases in the country with 73 recoveries and 163 mortalities.
