LTFRB holds dry run of double-decker buses in Manila

With our fingers crossed that this kind of bus will soon be implemented in Manila, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) held the dry run of double-decker buses on January 7.

The dry run started at 7:30 am, with the SM North Edsa to Glorietta 5 route. It is also open to the public and costs P55 per ride (P40 for students, senior citizens, and PWDs).

This service, which is operated by bus company Froehlich Tours, showcased this bus to be used for demonstration of possible use as EDSA transportation. This is part of the P2P Premium Buses services offered by the LTFRB.

According to LTFRB Chairman Winston Ginez, the use of double-decker bus can help alleviate commuters’ plight especially during peak hours. EDSA traffic condition may also improve. Unlike ordinary buses, these new breed of transportation will only stop at designated areas so as not to clog major thoroughfares, therefore having shorter travel time. Furthermore, it can also reduce air pollution and open up road spaces.

Other countries, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, and Hong Kong, have been using this kind of transportation for the past several years.
