  • The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will fully implement a provincial bus ban on major roads in Metro Manila, including Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), starting August 15, 2018.

The policy follows the intermodal transport system proposed by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to ease the congestion along the major road by cutting entry to Manila and opening terminals outside the metropolis.

Three new terminals outside Metro Manila are set to operate within the year: the Valenzuela Interim Terminal on August 15, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange in September, and the bus terminal in Sta. Rosa Laguna this December.

In a news briefing, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia also hinted at the possibility of banning select provincial buses from Balintawak to Magallanes upon the opening of the terminal in Valenzuela. Additionally, provincial bus lines that do not have terminals in Pasay City would be directed to use the agency-operated Southwest Interim Provincial Terminal (SWIPT), located along HK Sun Plaza in Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard.
