  • Ms. Earth 2018 to be held in Boracay, Philippines
  • Dashing gowns, sparkling stilettos, and stunning looks will surround the island of Boracay as Miss Earth 2018 launches its annual pageant from October 6 to November 3.

For the 16th time, the Philippines will be hosting the pageant—this time on the white sands of Boracay. In the past, countries like Austria and Vietnam were the only places to host the Miss Earth pageant besides the Philippines.

The event comes in at a perfect time for Boracay’s ‘re-opening’ as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) pushes for the Miss Earth pageant to grace the island’s comeback in October.  (see: Duterte gives DENR 6 months to ‘fix Boracay‘)

Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu stated that the island will officially reopen on October 26. In a hearing held on July 11, 2018, Cimatu says that the island is no longer a ‘cesspool’, and can sustain a good number of tourists if the rehabilitation is successful.

In an interview, Ms. Earth 2017 Karen Ibasco says they are more than delighted to work closely with Cimatu. “Secretary Roy Cimatu is a good friend of ours, so we’re happy to collaborate with them in various campaigns,” says Ibasco.

Miss Earth’s official Facebook page hyped the fans up after announcing that the next contest will be held in Boracay.

Since 2008, the Philippines already produced four Miss Earth winners: Karla Henry, Jamie Herrel, Angelia Ong, and Ibasco.
