GameCon 2018: 2nd year of celebrating local gaming
GameCon Philippines has once again successfully gathered gaming lovers of all generations in one venue at the Megatrade Hall in SM Megamall last February 10 and 11.
The Megatrade Hall was filled with gamers, game developers, cosplayers, and exhibitors of various gaming products and pop culture items. On one side of the venue, long tables were filled to capacity with tabletop game enthusiasts. On the other, PC gaming and stand-up arcade areas were also fully occupied, with people patiently waiting for their turn.
High-tech gaming technologies, like VR gears, advanced gaming consoles, and robotics, were also exhibited for con-goers to check out.
One of the most exciting parts of the convention was the Roborumble, wherein robots made by Filipino teams clashed against one another. Another highlight of the event was the workshops and forums, wherein aspiring game developers learned about the principles of the Philippine gaming industry among many others.
Above everything else, GameCon has been a great platform for Filipinos to showcase and discover the true potential of the local gaming industry. It has also been nice to find young kids at the event that showed a strong passion for the industry. What Filipino gamers, especially the young generation, need are events like this that will let them see the value of gaming not only as a form of entertainment but also as a means to influence and a significant driving force of the economy.
