  • David M. Consunji, the founding father and chairman emeritus of construction giant DMCI Holdings, passed away at the age of 95 on Monday.

    Consunji is known as the father of contemporary construction industry and an engineer who built DMCI Holdings from the ground up, leading the company to become the construction conglomerate that it is today.

    An alumnus of the University of the Philippines-Diliman College of Engineering, Consunji put up DMCI Holdings (then DM Consunji Inc.) in the 1950’s. He is described as a righteous man who was very hands-on throughout his building career.

    During the presidency of the late Ferdinand Marcos, he also served as the secretary of Public Works, Transportation, and Communications.

    Consunji retired in 2014 and was replaced by his son Isidro Consunji as the new DMCI chair and president.

    Consunji has also been consistently in the Philippines’ 50 Richest List of Forbes. This year, he landed on the 6th spot with $3.68 billion net worth.

    His wake is being held at the Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park, Makati.
