New British Ambassador sees off latest batch of Chevening scholars

It was a great day for a new set of Chevening scholars as the incoming British Ambassador to the Philippine saw them off for their one-year study in the United Kingdom.

Daniel Pruce, who replaced Asif Hamad as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Philippines this August, oversaw the send-off of 27 postgraduate students from varying fields of study last night at the British Embassy in Taguig City.

The 27 awardees will attend different Chevening partner institutes in the UK to pursue their chosen postgraduate degree for a year. This year’s awardees will pursue studies in the fields of Law, Journalism, and different fields of Science to name a few.

Ambassador Pruce congratulated the latest batch of Chevening scholars in Filipino, though he did leave them with a message in English before handing the certificates. “I wish you all the very best. I hope you work hard while in the UK, and I hope you will play harder because it’s one of the great opportunities to learn about English culture.”

He also invited anyone who’s interested in applying for a Chevening scholarship to visit chevening.org and apply for a Chevening scholarship. Applications are open until 8 pm on November 7, 2017.

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders since 1983. They offer two types of awards – the Chevening Scholarship and the Chevening Fellowship.
