DOTr Unveils the Bicol International Airport; World-class Features Revealed
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) unveiled the Bicol International Airport (BIA) and welcomed everyone to embark on its first commercial flights today.

Last week, the DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade shared a sneak peek photos of BIA as they inspect the area prior to its opening.
According to Transportation chief, it took 11 years and three groundbreaking ceremony before BIA was fully-completed and accessible.

“This is a promise fulfilled to Bicolanos. Despite the challenges and setbacks posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we able to finish Bicol International Airport by October,” Tugade said during his inspection of the BIA along with Albay Representative Joey Salceda last Sunday.
Dubbed as the ’Most Scenic Gateway’ of Bicol region because of its the world’s famous perfect volcanic cone shape, Mayon Volcana, the DOTr is full of confidence that the newly opened airport will help to boost the economy of the area.

WORLD-CLASS FEATURES
Meanwhile, according to CAAP Chief of Staff and Airport Airport Projects Team Head Danjun Lucas, passengers can check-in without any face-to-face interaction as Contactless Common Use Self Service Kiosks are available at the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) Ground Floor Check-in Lobby.

“We tapped the service provider of the Clark International Airport (CRK) in Pampanga to maximize the same high-technology features as the CRK, which is equipped for contactless baggage handling and food ordering system,” Atty. Lucas said.
In addition, the BIA can accommodate a total of two (2) million passengers annually and is expected to boost Bicol Region’s air traffic.
