Outdoor Exercises Prohibited in Metro Manila During ECQ
Outdoor exercises are banned in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the Metro Manila Council (MMC) announced on Tuesday.

The order was released through MMDA Resolution No. 21-17, series of 2021, signed by 17 Manila mayors and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Benhur Abalos Jr.
“It is hereby resolved that the MMC prohibits outdoor exercise in NCR during the ECQ until 20 August 2021 through the local government units of Metro Manila,” the resolution read.
The decision was made after the consistently rising number of COVID-19 cases, including confirmed cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus in the metro.
While the council recognizes the need for exercise, especially to promote and maintain physical, mental, and emotional health, staying at home is necessary to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases.
Malacañang also urged NCR residents to follow the resolution.
In a virtual press conference, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque advised people residing in Metro Manila to stay at home during the ECQ to protect themselves against COVID-19. “If they think, it is important to stay home for just 10 days, let’s just follow,” Roque said.
Metro Manila is placed under ECQ from August 6-20 to curb the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.
The Department of Health said Metro Manila is at a high-risk classification based on the capital’s positive two-week growth rate and high-risk average daily attack rate.
