There are some activities that you temporarily won’t be able to enjoy for a while, especially if these involve being in public spaces due to the enhanced community quarantine. For theater and opera enthusiasts, this is absolutely bad news.
But don’t worry, we’ve listed various opera companies who have made some of their performances available online for free!
Bayerische Staatsoper
An opera company based in Munich, Bayerische Staatsoper—also known as The Bavarian State Opera, is currently streaming their performance of Parsifal, Lucia Di Lammermoor and an orchestral concert for free until April 8, 2020.
Their other performances, which are often in demand, will be available for streaming after the given duration of the selected shows from their archives.

Wiener Staatsoper
Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), even before the pandemic outbreak, already has a streaming service where its patrons can re-watch their favorite performances or explore new ones. Not only exclusive to theater acts, they also offer ballet performances for their viewers.
They broadcast different opera and ballet shows every day. They also offer a multilingual feature where subscribers can select from a range of six languages: English, German, Italian, French and Japanese when watching. Upcoming shows such as L’Elisir D’ Amore, Die Frau Ohne Schatten and many more will be made available on their website starting April 1.

Metropolitan Opera
The Metropolitan Opera, which is one of the most acclaimed opera companies in the world, has been broadcasting their live performances since 2006. Their performances have also reached the digital platform where their viewers can stream some of its past production online.
Additionally, the Metropolitan Opera has been making their productions available every night on their website. Met’s classic live shows such as Nixon in China, Don Carlo, Les Pecheurs de Perles, Macbeth, Norma will be uploaded on their website in the coming days.

Royal Opera House
Royal Opera House‘s #OurHouseToYourHouse is their way of bringing the theater to your home in the midst of COVID-19.
Creating a schedule consisting of free broadcasts and live content that can be accessed by anyone and anywhere across the globe, you can enjoy shows such as Peter and the Wolf, Acis and Galatea, Cosi fan Tutte and The Metamorphosis to name a few.

Opernhaus Zürich
The Opernhaus Zürich is an opera house in the Swiss city of Zürich and also the home of the Zürich Ballet Company. Like all opera companies, they have made their performances available for free every weekend until early June.
Similarly to the Vienna State Opera, their broadcast also has a subtitle option which is available in German, English, and French. Some of their performances to be anticipated in the month of April include Messa da Requiem, I Capuleti ei Montecchi, and Nutcracker and Mouse King.
