The construction for the 1,500-hectare master-planned international airport hub commenced in 2018 just in time for it to reach the deadline set by the president in November 2019.
The DOTr, in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and other attached agencies, had successfully conducted an operational dry run of the airport in October 2019. By that time, the airport’s priority facilities are 100% operational.
The airport features four newly improved runways equipped with Precision Approach Patch Indicator lights on both directions and Air Ground Lighting System. A newly-constructed 750 sqm Passenger Terminal Building is also built to accommodate up to 160 passengers or 100 million passengers annually.
In addition to its facilities, two 1,750 sqm hangars were constructed in advance for commercial operations of the airport.
Following the airport’s inauguration, DOTr also announced that Alphaland Aviation and CebGo are set to make use of the new airport, in which Alphaland Aviation has already transferred its Balesin flights from Manila and Clark to Sangley starting February 14, while CebGo will transfer cargo operations to Sangley.
