On the other hand, Jennifer Saballa of the San Carlos City Tourism Office told the media that receiving the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Standard (ACTCS) for the second time is a product of the efforts of the government to promote sustainable tourism development.
The ACTCS aims to aid in improving the quality of tourism in the cities that will receive the stamp of approval. It acts as a tool to increase the cities’ marketing competitiveness as well as improve the situation of local residents and their livelihood.
Additionally, ACTCS highlights the importance of preserving the environment by responding to the impacts of climate change and contributing to the sustainable development of ASEAN cities.
To determine which cities fit the Clean Tourist City Standard, cities from ASEAN member countries are evaluated based on the following indicators:
- Environmental Management, Cleanliness
- Waste Management
- Awareness-building about Environmental Protection and Cleanliness
- Green Spaces
- Health Safety, and Urban Safety and Security
- Tourism Infrastructure and Facilities.
These factors determine the quality of tourism offered by the cities and identify areas that can be improved. You can view the complete guidelines here.
The awarding ceremony for ACTCS will take place on January 16, 2020 at Empire Hotel and Country Club in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
