Improved Access Road in Pagudpud Boosts Tourism in Ilocos Region
More tourists are expected to visit the famous Kabigan Falls in Barangay Balaoi following the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) road improvement project in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

According to a report from DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the construction of the 900-meter access road is set to provide better access for tourists who used to walk for 30 to 45 minutes from the highway to get to Kabigan Falls.

“From the previous 30 to 45 minutes walking time from the highway, visitors and residents now only take about 10 to 15 minutes to the municipal forest as it now allows vehicles to pass through the terrain,” DPWH Secretary Villar said.

With a total budget of Php 28.96 million under the 2018 General Appropriations Act, the construction project involved road concreting and slope protection works implemented by DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office.

The access road leading to Kabigan Falls is one of the projects under the DPWH – Department of Tourism convergence program or Tourism Roads Infrastructure Program aimed to improve the accessibility of tourist destinations and stir economic development.
