Dr. Virgilio Novero Jr. specializes in obstetrics and gynecology and sub-specializes in infertility and reproductive medicine. Choosing his field of practice was inspired by the announcement of the first test-tube baby in 1978 when he was still in high school. He gained his degree in medicine at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. He then had his residency at the Philippine General Hospital under Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his Fellowship in Infertility and Reproductive at the Free University of Brussels.
Today, 40 years later, Dr. Novero is the head of the Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine and Infertility (CARMI) and section head of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Luke’s Medical Center in BGC. He distinguished himself as one of the country’s pioneers in In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) practice at CARMI which he helped design, plan and operationalize as the first hospital-based IVF Center in the Philippines. He is also a part of the Philippine Obstetrics and Gynecologic Society (POGS), the Philippine Society of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (PSREI), and the Philippine Society of Gynecologic Endoscopy (PSGE). Dr. Novero has been the representative of the Philippines in the Asia Pacific Initiative in Reproduction since 2008.
