The fifteen Philippine companies who went through the design sessions were handpicked by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (DTI-CITEM), the export promotion arm of the Department of the Department of Trade and Industry.
Kohei Takata will spearhead Lifestyle Philippines at the International Furniture Tokyo as its Products Specialist
As the designated design director for the IFFT Interior Lifestyle Living 2018, Kohei Takata focused on tailoring the Philippine furniture, home decor, and houseware industry to the Japanese high-end interior market.
Designer Takata chose pieces that will be appropriate for the Japanese market and gave a lecture on the Japanese culture and lifestyle. With the focus on baskets, gardening items, and seasonal decorative items, Philippine local craftsmanship is highlighted.
“Filipino products are [mostly] handcrafted, and they have very good techniques [which] I think is very important because Japanese people like handicrafts,” Takata said on his impression of what he saw in the product development meetings with the participating companies.

The country’s participation in IFFT is the perfect opportunity for the Philippines to further its promotional activities in Japan.
