  • American media company Forbes has released their 30 Under 30 Asia List this year, which lists ‘young innovators and disruptors’ who have driven change in their own respective fields across 24 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

    The annual list of 300 young game-changers of this generation was selected from online nominations and research, which are carefully assessed by a panel of experts. Thirty individuals from each category namely the Arts, Enterprise Technology, Finance and Venture Capital, Industry, Manufacturing & Energy, Media, Marketing & Advertising, Retail & E-Commerce, Consumer Technology, Entertainment & Sports, Healthcare & Science, and Social Entrepreneurs were chosen under the theme “Disruption and Innovation” this 2018.

    For this year, six inspiring individuals from the Philippines made it to the list:

    Miko Aspiras, Filipino Pastry Chef, 29

    Aspiras is a renowned chef from the Philippines who has previously worked in top hotels as a pastry chef. At 29, he now has his own food group, Tasteless, with seven restaurant concepts such as Kushikatsu Daruma, Le Petit Souffle, and Hole in the Wall, among others.

    Carlo Delantar, Waves for Water Country Director, 26

    Delantar is the Country Director for Waves for Water, a non-profit organization which aims to provide access to clean water in remote communities all over the world. At present, they have already handed out 10,000 water filters to different communities in the Philippines, which benefited about one million Filipinos with their advocacy.

    Patrick Lynch, First Circle Co-Founder, 28

    Lynch is an Irish native based in the Philippines who co-founded First Circle, the “first fintech online lending company in the Philippines.” In his company, they provide finance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who are having difficulty in securing a capital.

    Bretman Sacayanan, Vlogger, 19

    Sacayanan, or more commonly known as Bretman Rock, is a social media star born in the Philippines who is now based in Hawaii. He became famous for his beauty vlogs which he posts online. He was also recognized by TIME as part of the 30 Most Influential Teens in 2017.

    Archie Oclos, Artist, 28

    Oclos is a 28-year old Filipino artist who creates art that relates to socio-political issues. Through his art, he is able to voice out his criticisms against the present administration’s War on Drugs. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, with Painting as his major.

    Stephanie Sy, Founder of Thinking Machines, 29

    Sy is one of the founders of Thinking Machine, a data science consultancy company which helps make artificial intelligence systems. As per her Forbes profile, one of their projects is helping to translate data from transportation app Waze in tacking traffic problems in Manila.
