Uber is Not Selling to Grab: Report
Rumors began early this year how Uber, the country’s leading ride-sharing firm, is selling parts of their Southeast Asia operations to their rival, Singapore-based Grab. From all the reports, however, Uber has not responded to an AFP request for comment til now.
Carmundi.com.ph has personally asked Uber Philippines government relations and public policy chief, Yves Gonzales, if the rumors were true but laughed it off. Uber Philippines and Gonzales have informed Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member Atty. Aileen Lizada that Uber headquarter’s stand that it is not selling its Southeast Asian operations. It will, instead, continue “to invest more” in the region.
According to Reuters.com, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi dismissed the rumor on a recent visit to Asia in February 2018 explaining that they are planning to “invest aggressively in terms of marketing, subsidies, etc.,” despite expecting to lose money in Southeast Asia.
Uber Philippines recently celebrated their 4th year in Manila last February launching a month-long of promotions for the community, drivers, government, and riders. In an email to all their customers, they declare that they “are just getting started.”
