Dr. Rogelio Varela Jr. is a urologist and a venereologist by profession. As a urologist, he treats ailments in the kidneys, kidney stones, kidney cancer, elderly men with prostate cancer, and patients with erectile dysfunction. As a venereologist, he treats patients with sexually-transmitted infections (STI) like HIV or gonorrhea.
When he was young, he used to have bronchial asthma and was required to see a doctor often. Because of their frequent meetings, Dr. Varela was enticed to venture into the field of medicine. He has been a practicing physician for about 11 years.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology at the University of Sto. Tomas, took his degree in Medicine at Our Lady of Fatima in Valenzuela City, and had his residency training for general surgery and urology at East Avenue Medical Center. Dr. Varela was once the vice president of the Residents Organization at East Avenue Medical City, and is the medical director of St. Patrick’s Health Care System Inc.
His advice for aspiring doctors: “Being a doctor is really a challenging profession. To succeed in this field, your goal should be to treat patients, see them based on how they need your services, and be really dedicated in the profession you chose.”
