  • The South African franchise of the popular American reality show Survivor has started shooting its newest season at El Nido, Palawan this month. The shooting of Survivor South Africa, which is already in its sixth season this year, started last January 21 and will end on February 21.

    In line with this, a few tourist spots around the island of El Nido will be temporarily closed to tourists or have limited access until the end of the shooting period.

    The closures include the Big Lagoon on January 21, February 7 and February 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.; the Pinagbuyutan Island on January 25, February 12, and February 19 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the Sandbar near Lagen Island on January 28, February 3, February 11, and February 16, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the Secret Lagoon on February 5, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Papaya Beach on February 9, February 17, and February 21, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    The local tourism office sees this as “a great avenue to show the world the exceptional beauty of El Nido.”

    Previously, the 25th and 26th seasons of Survivor were shot on Caramoan island in Camarines Sur in 2012, while the 27th and 28th seasons were shot on Palaui island in Santa Ana, Cagayan in 2013.
