  • There are two schools designated for the visually impaired in the Philippines: one of them is the Philippine National School for the Blind (PNSB) in Pasay City. PNSB houses hundreds of students who also reside in the school dormitory.

    On January 26, 2018, two months after the donations were given, the renovations of the PNSB Dormitory Building has finally been finished. This project is funded by Free the Children Japan (FTCJ) and Geronimo Berenguer de Los Reyes, Jr. Foundation, Inc. The turnover took place at the PNSB Covered Court where esteemed guests were invited such as the Ambassador of Japan to the Philippines, Koji Haneda, and his wife, Ihoko Haneda.

    Also present at the event are Ms. Yukari Ishida, in charge of FTCJ’s Education for the Visually Impaired Project in the Philippines and Ms. Baby Herrera, President of the Geronimo Berenguer de Los Reyes, Jr. Foundation, Inc.

    Certificates of Appreciation were given by Pasay City’s first lady Edna Calixto who also presented the certificates last year when Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe came to PNSB.

    All of them gathered on the second floor of the Dormitory building for the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the markers and newly renovated dormitories. The said organizations hope to improve the school through the years to come and to motivate the students and give them conducive environment.
