  • San Miguel to start construction of Southeast Metro Manila Expressway in April
  • The new Southeast Metro Manila Expressway (SEMME) project will soon be underway after the groundbreaking ceremony held in Taguig last Monday, January 8. Once completed, the SEMME, also called C6 expressway, is expected to shorten the travel time from Bicutan in Taguig City to Batasan in Quezon City to 35 minutes.

The groundbreaking ceremony was led by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and joined by the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) whose unit, Citra Intercity Tollways, Inc. (CITI) is the project concessionaire.

The Php 45-billion expressway project, divided into six sections, will have six lanes that run 34 kilometers from Skyway-FTI in Taguig to Batasan Complex in Quezon City. It will also connect to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) via Balagtas in the future.

CITI will start construction of the first phase in April and is expected to finish in 2020.

Besides shortening travel time and providing easier access to different points of Metro Manila including major airport terminals, the project will also help relieve traffic congestion along major arteries of Metro Manila including EDSA and C5.
