Palace declares June 26 as regular holiday
June 26 is now an official regular holiday according to the Palace. Last Friday, Malacanang Palace signed the Proclamation No. 235, declaring that the whole Philippines will observe Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan.

Under Republic Act (R.A.) 9177, The Feast of Ramadan is a regular holiday throughout the country. Muslims will celebrate Eid’l Fitr fro three days after the end of month of fasting.
Article 169 of the 1977 Presidential Decree 1083 states that Eid’l Fitr is recognized as one of the Muslim holidays or “the approximate date of these Islamic holidays may be determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient.”

Through Executive Salvador Medalia, he noted that it is important to declare June 26 as a regular holiday to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Muslim celebration.
Employees who work on regular holidays are required to pay at least 200 percent of their daily rate in according to Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Islam has more than five million members in a Catholic country like the Philippines.
