The Philippines placed 72nd from the 155 countries ranked in the World Happiness Report for 2017. This was according to the data released by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network for the United Nations, released on March 20.
This was said to be an improvement as the Philippines ranked 82nd last year.
Norway currently holds the spot for being the world’s happiest country, taking over Denmark’s position which placed 2nd this year. They are followed by Iceland, Switzerland, and Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New, Zeland, Australia, and Sweden, respectively. Placing last in this year’s report are Syria, Tanzania, Burundi, and Central African Republic.
According to the official report, they ranked the countries based on factors which include: GDP per capita, life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perception of corruption.
The yearly World Happiness Report first started in 2012, “in support of the UN High Level Meeting on happiness and well-being.” The people behind the report said that determining the happiness level of countries would also determine their social progress.
