International furniture brand IKEA to open first branch in the Philippines soon
Popular furniture brand IKEA is set to open its first branch in the Philippines soon!
In a report published by Manila Bulletin, Swedish Ambassador Harald Fries was said to have confirmed that IKEA has “decided to come in.”
As quoted from the article, “If IKEA goes in the Philippines, like it has gone in other countries, there would be great opportunities for Filipinos to find work and there would be investment in putting up stores.” At a media roundtable event for the 70th year of Sweden-Philippine Diplomatic Relations, Fries said that once the “Netherlands-based multinational group decides to start operating,” more investments and recruitment shall soon follow.
IKEA has branches in Asian countries such as Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, China, Thailand, Macau, Indonesia, and South Korea. It has also been tagged previously by Reuters as “world’s largest furniture retailer.”
