Business is GREAT in 2017
The British Embassy in Manila opens the fourth annual GREAT British Festival in the Philippines today, 24 February 2017. The biggest foreign street street festival in the Philippines will run until Sunday, February 26. British Ambassador Asif Ahmad
“Filipinos already know our famous landmarks. We want to share more of our secret to success – culture, people, and continuing openness to the world. Most Filipinos already know about the culinary delights of places like Borough Market and the fashion from our great designers and retailers. We also want our Filipino friends to experience the look and feel of different markets all over the country. Every city in the UK has weekday and Sunday markets. Villages have local produce on show. Street performers and people watching are also vibrant elements of our markets,” said Ambassador Asif Ahmad.
GMA Celebrities were also present for the ribbon cutting
This year’s GREAT British Festival will focus on the important place of markets in British life. More people here are choosing British clothes, food, and cars. Total British exports to the Philippines have grown by 38% in 2015 and a large and growing share of that trade now includes capital good as and cutting-edge services. As Philippine companies pave the way for the country’s continued development, they are also collaborating with British firms offering the latest technology.

British companies have come to see the Philippines as a fast-growing emerging market propelled by a young population and changing lifestyles. The price of rapid growth includes traffic gridlock and pollution. The government and private sectors are searching for solutions. “This is why we’re inviting all Filipinos to come see our Smart Ideas for Future Cities exhibition at the Festival, where you can see how innovation from British companies like Shell and Arup are shaping the way we will live years from now,” said Mike moon, Director for Trade and Investment at the Embassy.
“Business really is great — and we’re working hard to keep it that way.”
