Calamian Islands may get El Nido’s spotlight for being the ‘Most Beautiful’ island
For years now, Palawan has been recognized by numerous travel and lifestyle magazines as one of the best and most beautiful islands in the world. Famous for its clear blue waters and powdery white sand, there is no denying that the islands of Palawan will always have something that would attract the people to see and to explore more of its richness.
El Nido would always be at the top of anyone’s list when it comes to the must-see islands in Palawan. However, an international lifestyle travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler (CN Traveler) said that the Calamian Islands (or Calamianes) could be El Nido’s rival in maintaining the top spot.
The Calamian Islands are a hidden group of islands located at the far north of Palawan. In Lester Ledesma’s CN Traveler article, it was said that the cluster of islands is a “vast playground of stunning waterborne landscapes and dive sites.” It also boasts of the same beauty that Coron offers: diving spots, white sand beaches, rainforests, crystal clear waters, and mangrove swamps.
The group of islands also have a piece of history to give to its visitors as there are about two dozens of sunken Japanese Navy ships from World War II lying at the bottom of the sea. According to Lonely Planet, “about half a dozen of these are accessible to experienced divers.”
Aside from a few huts that you can find in Calamianes, tourists would find that the islands is as untouched as it can be. With no electricity and establishments nearby, one could simply relax and enjoy the beauty of nature, far from distractions.
