A meeting was held last Friday, January 27 at the MMDA office in Makati City between a member of I-ACT, the MMDA, and the leaders of transport groups where they agreed that the jeepney stops would be first established in the Commonwealth-España corridor.

The same meeting saw leaders of the following organizations agreeing to form a technical working group with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and respective LGUs to study traffic flow and find the best place for the jeepney stops:

    • Zeny Maranan of FEJODAP (Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines)
    • Obet Martin of Pasang Masda
    • Boy Vargas of ALTODAP (Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines), and
    • Orlando Marquez of LTOP (Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas)

MMDA General Manager Thomas Orbos said that this route has one of the heaviest concentrations of jeepneys in Metro Manila, serving as a main thoroughfare for workers and students alike.

“We need to end the days of picking up and dropping off passengers anywhere,” Orbos said, noting that jeepney drivers picked up and dropped off their passengers anywhere along the route, which result in traffic jams.

Orbos hopes that the project will not only provide convenience to passengers but also decongest traffic and instill discipline in both motorists and commuters.
