The screening of all 8 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries is extended in 10 selected SM Cinemas until January 7, 2017. This was according to a statement released by MMFF Committee (ExeCom) member Noel Ferrer in his Instagram account.

According to Ferrer, although the film festival is ending today, January 3, in some cinemas, it was still a “groundbreaking success” because of the overwhelming support they have had from the public.

He also said that they are pursuing and pushing for the extended screenings of the MMFF films in Robinsons’ and Ayala cinemas. They also announced that they are already “laying the groundwork for an extensive MMFF School Caravan,” bringing the MMFF closer to the students by screening it in their schools and universities.

Liza Dino-Seguerra, chairperson of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), also appealed for the cinemas to extend the screenings of MMFF films. “Let’s start the New Year by empowering our LOCAL film industry. Please, please, give them the chance to succeed, I guarantee that we will all benefit in the end,” she said in her Facebook statement.

“Hollywood can wait,” Dino-Seguerra said, ending her note, as Hollywood films will once again be back in Philippine cinemas starting January 4.
