PH science teams won gold, silver medals in Taiwan

  • In a report by GMA News, three science teams from Taguig public schools won silver and gold medals at the 2016 Kaohsiung International Invention and Design Expo in Taiwan held last December 9, 2016 to December 11, 2016.

    The exhibition, as cited by khmice.org.tw, includes an invention competition and two International Conferences with participants from more than 20 countries who submitted more than 500 entries.

    The gold medalists came from Taguig Integrated School team (Grade 5 students Jaisa Julene L. Mataac, Kenth Andrew F. Gallardo, and Ken B. Benavente) with their winning entry of antibacterial and antifungal bath soap made from PLC (Papaya, Lemon and Coconut Oil) for the Life Science category.

    Other gold medalists from Taguig Science High School team (Grade 10 students Jerome A. Sombilon and Anna Beatriz A. Suavengco) won with their “Remediation of Heavy Metal Ions in Synthetic Contaminated Effluent by Calcium Carbonate found in Asiatic Clams or Tulya Clams” proposal for the Biotechnology category.

    Meanwhile, students from Sen. Renato Compañero Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School (SRCCMSTHS) won a silver medal with their invention of a correction fluid which uses egg whites as raw material called “Alburase” for the Office Category product.
