  • Christmas indeed, is the season of love and giving. So this holiday season, why not make Christmas merrier and more meaningful by sharing the love and helping others in need?
    Here’s a list of some charity organizations in the Philippines by TV5 Interaksyon where you can spread joy and love by sharing, volunteering and donating.

    1. Museo Pambata Toy Drive

    Donate your new, old, and usable toys at the country’s premier children’s museum. These will be given to the little ones during the museum’s annual gift-giving activity on December 16. Anyone can drop off toys at the museum lobby.

    2. World Vision Philippines

    World Vision started a yearly tradition for communities to celebrate Christmas more meaningfully. Now on its 11th year, the goal of World Vision’s annual Noche Buena Campaign remains the same: to bring families together and share with them the love God has, not only for those who have less but also for those who have more to give.

    3. Give Love on Christmas Day

    What began as a random idea in 2010 became a yearly venture during the Christmas season. Friends Joan and Kath are bent on giving “joy and love” and “extending our blessings to our less fortunate brothers and sisters through this annual Christmas project.”
    Volunteers can bring adult diapers, anti-hypertensive drugs (Losartan and Amplodipine, pain killers), cleaning materials, and personal hygiene products.

    4. Project Brave Kids

    Project Brave Kids is a “community of volunteers helping children with cancer” at PCMC. They will fete 150 families as part of their mission to help improve these young patients’ “quality of life by enhancing their social, emotional, spiritual and physical well-being.”
    Those who want to donate can give spaghetti noodles, spaghetti sauce, and cheese, as well as other dishes fornoche Buena.

    5. World Vision

    The Christian development, relief, and advocacy organization works with communities worldwide to reach their full potential by addressing the causes of poverty and injustice. World Vision annually distributes meal packages to families, and anyone can be a part of this advocacy by volunteering to package the goods for noche buena. Contact World Vision for more details.

    6. I Run to Share

    The local government of Malabon City as led by Mayor Len-len Oreta will hold a fun run to benefit the indigent children of their city. Enthusiasts just have to bring at least three new or used toys in order to be registered for the event. Registration period is ongoing until December 10. The fun run will be on December 16.

    7. Feed a Soul on Christmas

    Rock singer Bamboo and his fans will come together to feed 100 kids from the school and to nourish their spirits with song. The program includes games, student presentations, a gift-giving activity, and more.
    The organizers will continue to accept monetary contributions for food and school supplies until December 10. Donations of any kind are welcome.

    8. Sittizens’ Christmas Gift-Giving 2012

    The bossanova artist will be giving noche buena packages and school supplies to a hundred high school and college students in Tagaytay, so participants can enjoy the December chill, too. There is a Php500 fee, to be deposited by a deadline of December 7. Food and transportation will be provided for those who will join.

    9. Christmas Kitchen

    The lady behind community café and restaurant Briggy Hall will give away food packages to greet 50 elderly neighbors a merry Christmas. Anyone can drop off donations, preferably packed food with a long shelf life, at Briggy Hall until December 23.
    “It’s our version of a soup kitchen, but we’re getting people to donate food that can be enjoyed for noche buena by indigent senior citizens and their families,” said Ivanna Aguiling, who spearheads the project. “We held this the first time last year and it was simple but touching.”

    10. Kythe

    Anyone can be Santa Claus by sending gifts, food, toiletries, and other care items to Kythe, a non-stock, non-stock organization that aims to improve the quality of life among hospitalized children with cancer and other chronic illnesses.

    11. UNICEF Champions for Children

    Through this program by the United Nations Children’s Fund, anyone can make regular contributions that will “enable a growing number of Filipino children to enjoy the right to education, healthcare and nutrition as well as protection from neglect, abuse and exploitation.”

    Marks and Spencer has also partnered with UNICEF to donate Php5 to the latter’s lifesaving program on acute malnutrition for each time a customer purchases P1,000 worth of items at the store. This happens until December 31.

    12. Operation Walang Iwanan

    The bayanihan spirit is alive as Gawad Kalinga mobilizes relief efforts for the victims of Typhoon Pablo through Operation Walang Iwanan. Volunteer or send donations by contacting them or checking out their Twitter page, which is constantly updated.
    GK also holds Christmas celebrations in their various communities in the Philippines. Everyone is free to participate.

    13. AHON (Acts of Hope for the Nation) Foundation

    The non-profit, non-stock organization that builds “fully-functional public elementary school libraries” want to continue giving the gift of reading to kids all over the country.

    15. Project Pearls

    Project PEARLS is a non-profit organization that aims to give underprivileged kids “peace, education, aspiration, respect, love, and smiles.” They have a weekly feeding program for the children in Ulingan, followed by sessions of learning and play. They hold quarterly medical missions and provide scholarships as well.

    16. Ateneo OSCI
    For those who want to create an outreach of their own but don’t know where to begin, they can contact the Office for Social Concern and Involvement at the Ateneo de Manila University. Send a letter addressed to Director Mary Ann Manapat or call (+632) 426-6001 local 5090 to 91. Allow for one to two weeks of processing.
