Google’s Year in Search 2016
Google, on Wednesday, released its “Year in Search 2016” – a set of lists of events, names, trends, and items which marked as the highlight of 2016. It covered anything and everything under the sun – from things that relate to pop culture, sports events, and politics.
Primer PH gives you a rundown of some of the most-searched and talked about names, trends, and issues in the Philippines this year:

There is no doubt that the 2016 Presidential Elections is the highlight of this year. Every Filipino, wherever they are in the country, stood by and watched the events unfold before them – from the campaign period, to the Election Day itself, to the announcement and the oath-taking of the elected candidates.
Brexit, Harambe, Supermoon, and the Davao Bombing also made it to the Top 5 news events which made it to the list.
Male Personalities: President Rodrigo Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte led the list of searched male personality in the country. Filipinos kept an eye and followed every aspect that relates to him: from the events during his campaign period, inauguration, his State of the Nation Address (SONA), platforms, his relations with the other countries, and many others.
Some of the other male personalities who also made it to the list were Korean actor Song Joong Ki, US President-Elect Donald Trump, Train to Busan star Gong Yoo, and British actor Tom Hiddleston.
Female Personalities: Pia Wurtzbach

Leading the list of the most-searched female personality is Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach. Her victory in this year’s Miss Universe took not only the Philippines, but also the universe by storm, especially after the incident involving pageant host Steve Harvey who apparently mentioned the wrong name during the coronation night. Other searches which relate to the Miss Universe include her homecoming parade in the country, as well as the men who got involved with her.
Maine Mendoza, ½ of Aldub, was also included in the list, as well as Suicide Squad’s Margot Robbie, Filipino actress Arci Munoz, and Singer/actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself is the Philippines’ most-searched song, closely followed by Closer by The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey, Secret Love Song by Little Mix, and Once Call Away by Charlie Puth. Sorry, which was also sung by Justin Bieber, was also 4th on the said list. There would be no question as to this since everyone, and literally everyone, hears and sings these songs whenever they go.
South Korea’s Train to Busan topped the list of films in Google’s report. It is a zombie apocalypse horror film which revolves around a group of people who try to escape the virus that had started to spread in the train they were riding. This film is followed by DC’s Suicide Squad, Deadpool, Conjuring 2, and Captain America: Civil War.
Descendants of the Sun, a Korean drama about the romance of a soldier and doctor, is number 1 at Google’s most-searched TV Shows. Netflix series Stranger Things, Legends of the Blue Sea, the Filipino remake of Encantadia, and teleserye Dolce Amore were also in the list.
Slitherio, Pokemon Go, Agario, Animal Jam, and Snapchat all made it to the top 5 apps that is mostly searched by Filipinos.
The Olympic Games, which were held in Rio topped the list of searched events in the Philippines, alongside the elections in the Philippines and in the United States, and Manny Pacquiao’s fights with Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas.
As for the list of most searched items globally, here are the trends which made it to the Top 10:
