The people behind the commuter app Sakay.ph, Thomas Dy and Philip Cheang are back with another app that will save every commuter from the hassle the transport system in Manila brings! Traincheck, which was launched in November 22, is an app that lets you check on the perfect time to take the Metro Rail Transit – Line 3 or most commonly known as MRT. According to the website, Traincheck “predicts when train stations are going to be crowded.” With this smart app, you can now avoid long lines and crowds.
DOTR’S STREAM. A live CCTV stream of MRT3. Image grabbed from Sakay.ph
Traincheck was formed with the help of Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) public site where there are real time camera streams from every station of the MRT3. From there, these geniuses wrote software which captured images from every stream at regular intervals and noted the time.
To use this app, you only have to input which MRT train station you will be taking, which station you will be heading, and how long you are willing to wait. It also provides a graphic where you can see when is the best time to go, as it describes the situation from light, mid-light, medium, mid-heavy, to heavy.
Traincheck is part of the Sakay.ph app, available on iOS, Android, and on your desktop browser.
