According to a report published by GMA News, 162 motorists are already arrested in its first day of implementation. “The policy, which will be implemented in EDSA, C-5, Macapagal Avenue, and Commonwealth Avenue, aims to ease traffic congestion and reduce the number of fatal accidents involving motorcycles”- said by MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos in a report published by ABS-CBN news. “Our objective here is not only to move people faster but also make sure they reach their destinations safely,” he added.

Data shown on the MMDA website that out of the 265 vehicular accidents daily in Metro Manila, 30 of it involves motorcycle riders. Based on the Road Crash Statistical Report from January to April 2016, a total of 7,033 motorcycle accidents were recorded.

The MMDA, along with the Motorcycle Philippine Federation had already done trial runs last weekend to orient and familiarize motorcycle riders on the said policy.

Also, they will be flagging down motorcycles with no signal lights or side mirrors.
