Film on American expat living in PH premieres in DC for Fil-Am History month
The documentary film “Curiosity, Adventure, & Love” by Filipino filmmaker Sunshine Lichauco de Leon premiered in DC line with the US celebration of Filipino-American History Month.

Hosted by the Philippine Embassy, the said film tells the story of Jessie Lichauco, a “Cuban-born American settled in the Philippines after marrying Filipino diplomat and lawyer Marcial Lichauco in the early 1930s. Jessie, now 104 years old, continues to live in her family’s residence, which in 2010 was declared a Heritage House, located along the Pasig River in Santa Ana, Manila.
For her involvement in helping the Filipino people, Jessie was granted Philippine citizenship in 2013 through R.A. 10356 signed into law by then President Benigno Aquino III. According to the co-producer, co-director, and co-writer of the film Sunshine Lichauco de Leon, who also happens to be the granddaughter of Jessie, the film pays tribute to the “enduring ties between Filipinos and Americans.”
“Curiosity, Adventure, & Love” won the Special Jury Prize at the 2016 World Premieres Philippines Film Festival last July. According to de Leon, she hopes that the film would encourage audience to learn more about Philippine history.
The film will be shown at Rockwell Powerplant Cinemas (Cinema 4) in Makati City on January 18 to 25, 2017. Check the film’s Facebook page for more information.
