Bataan First District Representative Geraldine Roman was cited at Motto, TIME Magazine’s online subsidiary, last Tuesday (October 11) in celebration of International Day of the Girl. The article was titled, “These 13 Women Inspired Us in 2016” with subtitle “From Beyonce to Geraldine Roman, the Philippines’ first transgender congresswoman.”

Roman was named by TIME as one of the most inspiring women of 2016 among 13 leaders including Hillary Clinton, Beyonce and Solange Knowles, Michelle Carter to name a few.

Elected as the first transgender congresswoman in the country, TIME also recognized her efforts to push for civil unions and an anti-discrimination bill on behalf of the LGBT community.

In a statement, Roman’s office said she “is humbled and honored to be part of a list citing inspiring women all over the world.”
