In a report by The Standard, Transportation secretary Tugade vowed to speed up the completion of the said P4.7-billion airport in Daraga, Albay. The project is included in the first 10 big projects approved by the National Economic Development Authority-Investment Coordinating Committee. According to Albay Representative Joey Salceda, the airport would draw “at least five million tourists by 2025. The project is also seen to generate 235,000 jobs in the next 10 years and $1 billion in investments.”
This new airport is expected to trigger economic growth in Bicol. This airport will have two-storey passenger terminal and a separate cargo facility. Aside from the BIA, two other infrastructure projects are seen to make Bicol a new investment haven such as the South Luzon Expressway extension and the South Luzon Railway.
The airport is set to be an international gateway in the South of Manila, which can very well help tourism projects in the region especially in Albay, Masbate, and Sorsogon.
