The film will be directed by Fumihiko Sori, who also directed live-action adaptations of Ping Pong (2002) and Ashita no Joe (2011). It will have an all-Japanese cast led by Ryosuke Yamada of Japanese idol group Hey! Say! JUMP, who will play the role of Edward Elric. Winry Rockbell will be played by Tsubasa Honda, and Dean Fujioka will play the role of Roy Mustang. Other cast members include:
• Fumiyo Kohinata as General Hakuro

In an interview with Natalie, Sori said he will try to draw from the manga as much as possible. “The cast is entirely Japanese, but the setting is Europe. However, their race and nationality isn’t expressed in a specific form,” he added.
He did not reveal how they will depict Alphonse, Edward Elric’s brother who’s bound to a suit of armor, but assures that fans will be satisfied with his depiction.
Expect Fullmetal Alchemist to hit Japanese theatres in Winter 2017. A world release has not yet been announced as of today.
